Each Monday we will feature a “Scrub of the Week”. This is either the Cub player who absolutely sucked the worst OR a Cub player who did something stupid. Check back each Monday for the latest scrub.
August 13 – August 20, Ronny Cedeno:
Ronny went the last 7 days with a dismal .217 batting
average at just 4-22. He competed with several other Cubs for the “worst
average” over the last week. But throw in an error for Ronny and he takes
the prize this week.
August 6 – August 12, Jacque Jones:
Joke, I mean, Jacque Jones takes the coveted Scrub of the
Week award for the past week. Over the last 7 days Jones is a horrid 4-23
from the plate. Further showing why the Cubs went out and got him in the
offseason. Congrats Jacque.
July 31 – August 5, Cesar Izturis:
Is it really fare for us to give the Scrub of the Week award
to a guy in his first week on the team? Well he’s forcing us to.
Izturis showed why the Cubs traded hall of famer Greg Maddux for him by batting
3-17 with 0 HR, 1 RBI and 0 SB over the past week. Hopefully this
continues for the rest of the season. Congrats Cesar, you are the Scrub of
the Week.
July 24 – July 30, Phil Nevin:
Phil Nevin takes the prize this week. And he better
look out. The same week Todd Walker was name “Scrub of the Week”.
The Cubs decided to trade him away! Coincidence? We think not!
Anyways, Nevin batted a horendous 2-15 with 5 strikeouts over this timeframe as
a part time player. His glove was non-existent as well despite making any
errors. Congrats to Phil for the Scrub of the Week award!
July 17 – July 23, Todd Walker:
Big Todd Walker takes the prize this week. Not only
did walker suck at the plate going just 1-11 but he made 3 errors on the
week. 3 errors in 4 games. 2 errors were in that crucial inning on
ESPN Sunday Night baseball. Not far behind this week was D. Lee for the
2nd straight week and Joke Jones.
July 10 – July 16, Derrek Lee:
Lee was just 2-16 over the last week with 6 K’s. Pretty
solid for a guy who’s making $9,416,667 this year huh? He’s our first ever
“Scrub of the Week”.
The Cubs just continue to lose. That’s what they do. They’ve lost 3 in a row and have fell to a dismal 37-60. They find new ways to lose every week. This past week they showed poor displays in fielding (Todd Walker), hitting (Todd Walker, D. Lee, Joke Jones), pitching (Mark Crior, Bob Howry) and coaching (Crusty Baker).
Things are going to get worse before they get better too. The Cubs stroll into New York for a 3 game series before hosting the Cardinals for 4 games this weekend. Could that be 7 more in a row? Well probably not as the Cubs always seem to play a little better against NL Central rival Cardinals, but we’ll see.
The Cubs theme song is “Wake Me Up When September Ends” by Green Day.

As if things weren’t bad enough. Now the Cubs have totally embarrassed themselves on ESPN Sunday Night baseball. Things were rolling along quite smoothly, the Cubs held a 5-2 lead going into the 6th inning. Marshall was pitching great. Then it all turned, FOR THE WORSE.
The nightmare started with Todd Walker bobbling a weak ground ball allowing a runner on first. Delgado then blooped one to center, and Pierre couldn’t make the play (no range!). Then Wright blooped a single to RF to load them up. And what do you know, Cliff Floyd decides to drop a granny bomb on them. Ouch. 6-5 Mets.
It gets worse. Walker drops a throw from Aramis to keep the inning going. The bases get juiced again. Ground ball to Aramis. Brilliant as he is, he decides to go home with it first. Out at home, safe at first. Inning continues. Should have turned the convential 5-4-3 double play Errormis! Up comes Beltran. GONE. Second grand slam in the inning. 11-5 Mets. Delgado then ropes a double. And Wright slams another bomb to make it 13-5 Mets and a horrid 11 run inning.
Thoughts to take out of this: Get rid of Walker. Baker is all but gone. Is this the worst Cubs team in the last decade? I think so.
