Over a Century of Bad Chicago Cubs Baseball

Cub Fan Trifecta

Cubs Suck News — By webmaster on Wednesday, October 25, 2006

This was posted at a local forum that we ran across.

Cub fans are at an all-time low right now. Yes, we all know they haven’t won the World Series since 1908, but look at the last three years and how bad it must be for Cub fans:

2004: The only other team who hasn’t won a World Series in about 90 years, the Boston Red Sox, pull it out with a 4 game sweep. This leaves the Cubs as the far and away longest running team without a championship, followed by their cross town rivals, the Chicago White Sox….but not for long.

2005: The Southsiders complete a 4 game sweep of the Astros in the World Series. Now the closest team to the Cubs futility is the Cleveland Indians, who at least won in 1948. And to top things off, the Cubby fans are constantly reminded of the fact that the Sox managed to win as they live and work in the same city.

2006: As if things weren’t going bad enough for Cubby Nation, the Cubs NL rival St. Louis Cardinals make an improbable run through the 2006 playoffs and are now only 2 wins away from their first championship since 1982.

Somebody must really hate the Cub fans. All I know is thank God I’m not one of them!

Piniella Next to Suffer

Cubs Suck News — By webmaster on Monday, October 16, 2006

The Cubs have supposedly finalized a deal that makes Lou Piniella their new manager. The deal is a three-year contract believed to be worth at least $4 million annually. They are expected to have a news conference later today to announce Lou as the next Cubs skipper.

Now Cub fans have something to be excited about… Again… Just give it 1 full year and you will all be calling for his head, just like Dusty.

So was this the right move for the Cubs? Absolutely not. Hendry made this hire in a desparate attempt to bring wins, NOW. Well, the Cubs aren’t structured and built to win now. They should have hired a youngster such as Girardi, and rebuilt this thing from scratch.

Adios Dusty

Cubs Suck News — By webmaster on Monday, October 2, 2006

After 4 painful years with the Cubs, manager Dusty Baker was canned on Monday. Just a day after the Cubs finished as the last place National League team. And just an short time after president Andy MacPhail resigned. Dusty finished 322-326 with the Cubs.

“It’s a very sad day,” said team general manager Jim Hendry. “Beyond baseball, Dusty is a great man, a class individual who’s done a lot for a lot of people on and off the field, including me.”

Is it just me - or should Jim Hendry be gone too??? They need a complete overhaul!

As Cub haters we are gonna miss Crusty. He always gave us a good laugh. So who’s the next guy gonna be? Leave your thoughts in the comments of this article!

Cubs Finish with Worst Record in NL

Cubs Suck News — By webmaster on Monday, October 2, 2006

Ouch. That about sums up the Chicago Cubs HORRIBLE 2006 season. They finished 66-96 and a game behind the Pittsburgh Pirates for the worst record in the National League. Thanks to the Royals and Devilrays for losing a few more than the Cubs and keeping them out of the MLB cellar.

I’ve heard it before and I’ve already heard it today. “Wait til Next Year” is the quote coming out of Cubbie Fan mouths. Mass changes are sure to come from the Cubs. New president, new manager, new coaches, new players… They need it all. But one thing is for sure, they are STILL the same old losing Cubs.

It was a fun 2006 season. Thanks to everyone for visiting Cubs Suck Club throughout the year. We’ll be updating the site with some new pictures and jokes shortly so be sure to check back soon.

Andy MacPhail is Gone

Cubs Suck News — By webmaster on Monday, October 2, 2006

Andy MacPhail resigned as the president and chief executive officer of the Cubs on Sunday. This after the Cubs finished off the 2006 season with a NL worst 66-96 record. Falling 1 game behind the Pirates for the worst league in the NL.

“It’s not just the season,” said MacPhail, who had operated on a handshake deal since coming to the Cubs from the Minnesota Twins in late 1994. “It’s not just the fact that we had just a terrible season. Look, I’ve been here 12 years. Twelve seasons and only two postseasons. To me, that’s not what I came here to do. Obviously, I haven’t been as effective as I wanted to be. There’s one rule that applies to everybody,” MacPhail said. “You got to win, and if you don’t win, it’s subject to change.”

This is thought to be the first of MANY changes for the Cubs this offseason. Speculation is that Dusty Baker is next out the door. Only time will tell.
