Wrigley Field Tickets go on sale Friday, February 23rd. I know most of us here at Cubs Suck Club won’t want Cubs Tickets, but there may be a reason we want to go to Wrigley Field and get a good laugh! Heck, if you do get a chance to buy Wrigley Field Tickets for this year – might as well buy them. These tickets will be hard to come by and won’t be hard to sell. I’d love to get a ticket to Wrigley for the Cubs/Cardinals series – but we’ll see what happens.
The latest Cubs article in the Chicago Tribune talks about how the Cubs are going to scrap the ‘small ball’ approach from the last two years and go back to the ‘long ball’ approach. Paul Sullivan writes,
“After back-to-back sub-.500 seasons at Wrigley Field, the Cubs desperately need to regain the home-field advantage in 2007. And the best way to do that, they have decided, is to return to the power-ball approach of the past. So small ball is out, and clout is king once again.” Story Here
WHAT? The Chicago Cubs playing ‘small ball’ the last two years. Right! Hilarious. Under Dusty Baker they were one of the worst small ball teams in the National League. They couldn’t put down a bunt if it was on a tee. They made running mistake after running mistake. They left men on 3rd basically every inning. If they didn’t hit the homerun – they weren’t going to score. So what changes this year? Nothing. It’s the same old Cubs just a new Manager.
Jacque Jones batting 2nd huh? The front of their lineup may hit some homeruns – but how many K’s will they have? Let’s take a look at their top three guys from back in 2005:
- Alfonso Soriano – 36 HR’s, 125 K’s
- Jacque Jones – 23 HR’s, 120 K’s
- Derrek Lee – 46 HR’s, 109 K’s
Whoa!!! Three guys that consistently K 100+ times starting off the game. Looks like a lot of ‘hit or miss’ innings for the Cubbies. Throw in the fact that their #4 hitter Aramis Ramirez is a free swinger and their #5 hitter Cliff Floyd could top the 100 K mark; and it smells like trouble. Homeruns shouldn’t be hard to come by. But Wins will be hard to come by.
Does it get any worse if you are Kerry Wood? You spend like 5 straight years on and off the DL. 2007 you finally feel healthy. Then, you freakin slip getting out of a hot tub at home and injure your stomach and chest. Wow! Kerry Wood is the defination of ‘injury prone’ or ‘soft’.
“It was just a little spill,” Wood said Thursday. “I didn’t think anything of it. Nothing’s wrong. It’s just going to be a few extra days. My arm feels great. My body feels good.”
Yeah right. We’ve heard this before. It took all but one day of spring training for something to keep him out. It’s going to be a long year in Chicago.
Wow, the sacred Wrigley Field is going to be used as a billboard now as they announced advertising will appear among the ivy on the outfield walls. The logo of sports apparel manufacturer ‘Under Armour’ will appear on the doors in right and left field. They are desperate for money after spending stupid money on Ted Lilly, Mark Derosa and Alfonso Soriano. Money, money, money – it’s all about the money.
So the Cubs went out and spent nearly $300 million in the offseason and brought in some key free agents. Or are they key?
An article from the Chicago Daily Herald addressed a few concerns with this years Cubs. We’re going to put our spin on these questions:
How will Alfonso Soriano do in center field and batting leadoff? There is no question in my mind that Soriano will soon be ‘unhappy’ with his role in a Cub uniform. Everywhere this guy goes – he’s brings up some sort of controversy and demands a change. What makes you think he’ll change for the good ole Cubbies? He IS NOT a good centerfielder! CF is the most important outfield position defensively. And putting this guy out there is like walking on a thin sheet of ice. He might be alright in the leadoff position from a batting perspective; but doesn’t he strike out WAY to much to bat leadoff?
Will Zambrano/Prior/Wood ever live up to the hype? Alright – so the big Z has been ok the past few years. But Prior and Wood are a joke. If they Cubs have any plans of using them this year – they better start re-evaluating NOW! Don’t say I didn’t tell you so when they both are whining of an arm injury by mid June.
Ted Lilly? Seriously! 4 year – $40 million dollar deal for a guy who is barely a .500 pitcher. Balls will be flying over the ivy when he’s on the mound!
Jason Marquis? Ok. Think about it Jim Hendry! The ‘Best Team in Baseball’ Cardinals could not get anything out of this guy. How in the world do you expect to get anything but a 5.56 ERA from him? Just like Lilly – balls will be flying over the ivy when he’s throwing.
What about that bullpen? Dempster was horrible last year. Did the Cubs address it? No! Should have spent a few million suring up that pen.
Is Lou the savior? Lou… You better get used to losing because it’s going to be a LONG year for you and the Cubbies.
