Over a Century of Bad Chicago Cubs Baseball

Soriano is an Expensive Injury

Cubs Suck News — By webmaster on Tuesday, April 17, 2007

soriano_leg.jpgWhen the Cubs signed Alfonso Soriano to his 8 year 136 million dollar contract in the offseason - Cub fans were pumped up.  I can remember several saying how great Alfonso would be and so on.  My first response to them everytime was…

“Give him a couple months and he’ll be hurt.”

Well, Soriano didn’t wait a couple months to start with the injury bug.  He injured his hamstring during Monday nights game and will be out a few days at least.  We all know how sensitive hamstring injuries can be and they typically take a while to heal - so we’ll see what happens next.  Even if he misses just a few games it’s like a $500,000+ injury.  Now with Aramis, Prior, Wood and Soriano out - this unbelievable team is looking a little depleted, don’t ya think?

Hitting Still a No-Show

Cubs Suck News — By webmaster on Monday, April 16, 2007

suicide.jpgThe Cubs fell again on Sunday by the score of 1-0. The Cubs now sit at 4-7 in sole possession of last place in the NL Central. Those bats just aren’t coming out like expected but the pitching has certainly been there. Newcomer Ted Lilly said after the game,

“I’ve had three starts and we’re not winning a lot of games,” said Lilly, who signed with the Cubs for four years and $40 million in the offseason. “It’s nice to go out there and throw the ball well, but the objective is to win games.”

Get used to it Ted. You knew what kind of losing team you signed with - just get used to it. It also seems like we’re able to pull a ‘Lou Quote’ from about every game now. He’s starting to lose it already. He was asked after the game what he has seen and responded,

“What have I seen? What have you all seen?” manager Lou Piniella asked afterward. “You ask me like I’m the only eyes in this room. What have you all seen?”

I’ve seen a group of mediocre baseball players who can only win games if they hit 4+ homeruns in a game. No baseball fundamentals, no team chemistry, no ‘true’ leadoff hitter, no real 2nd hitter, a questionable middle relief core… That enough? What has everyone else seen? Hey Lou - you asked!

Starting to Meltdown

Cubs Suck News — By webmaster on Saturday, April 14, 2007

czamb.jpgUh oh - look out. The good ole Cubbies are back again with another classic loss. This time - Lou Piniella is starting to understand that this team really is - BAD! After their 6-5 loss on Friday Lou was asked what ‘wasn’t working’ and he responded,

“What the hell do you think isn’t working? You see the damn game,”

Whoa Lou. A simple “Our bats aren’t working” or “Not a good loss, but we’ll bounce back” would have done just fine. Starting to get agitated Lou? He goes on to say.

“And then I bring in the reliever who’s throwing 30-to-40-foot curveballs to boot. I can see. I can start to see some of the ways this team has lost ballgames. I can see it. We’ve got to correct it obviously. … This game here is one that got away from us that really shouldn’t.”

Yep… I can start to see how they’ve lost ballgames too. You weren’t able to see this before that game? Hmmm. Zambrano basically imploded in this one giving up 6 in the top of the 5th including two bases loaded walks. Ouch. The ‘ACE’ of this team sure isn’t performing at 1-2 and a near 8.00 ERA! Better give him his money management!!!

The Cubs take on the Reds again at 12:05 on Saturday.

Disney to Own the Cubs

Cubs Suck Jokes — By webmaster on Thursday, April 12, 2007

disney_logo.jpgSo I heard today that Disney is now interested in buying the cubs when they come for sale at the end of this year. This makes sense as they have plenty of money to do this plus they have a vested interest in sports (ESPN).

Supposedly they are really just looking for the next Mickey Mouse operation and the Cubs franchise is a perfect fit.

Excuses, Excuses, Excuses

Cubs Suck News — By webmaster on Tuesday, April 10, 2007

The Cubs fell once again to the Houston Astros on Tuesday afternoon. They lost 4-2 and their so-called “best lineup in baseball” didn’t perform again. The Cubs have now fell into very familiar ground - last place. lou_thumbs_up.jpgLosing their last 3 games and 0-2 at home. Most teams just fight through and talk about how they need to play better… Not the Cubs. They always seem to come up with some kind of excuse. Check this out…

“I was telling our general manager today, the way we’re put together as a team, if we play in 40-degree (weather) all year, I don’t think we’re going to do very well because we don’t have that type of team,” Piniella said. “We have more power in our lineup. We need to bang it a little more, and once the weather warms up, we will.”

Come on now Lou! It’s your 8th game as Cubbie manager - don’t start this crap already. Why is this 40-degree weather any different for your team than it is for the rest of the teams? Just come to the realization that this team sucks and will never win anything; and the year will be much more enjoyable for ya!
