2012 MLB Betting Preview

Even though we are a “Cubs Suck” site – we still like to bring some random sports and baseball topics at you from time to time.  We are approaching the final month before Major League Baseball kicks off for the 2012 season. As teams continue to grab their final players to form a spring training team, odds makers have placed odds on what teams will win the AL, NL and World Series, along with the player that is most likely to hit the most homeruns in all of the league. Many of you enjoy making Daily MLB picks throughout the season – but for now – let’s take a look at a few of the interesting future bets in MLB.

To win the American League, the leading starting Spring Training is the New York Yankees. The Yankees are +300 odds. New York will not have it easy, as both the Red Sox and Rays will compete well in the division. With the addition of Albert Pujols, the Angels are picked as the second best team in the AL. Pujols was joined by C.J. Wilson, which makes them a huge favorite in the AL West. Next, is the Detroit Tigers, who added Prince Fielder to a team that won the AL Central last season. Fielder and Cabrera will be quite the duo. Next, is the two time defending champion Texas Rangers. While the Rangers lost some key players, they also added Yu Darvish to the mix. The fifth best team according to odds makers in the AL is the Boston Red Sox. Boston is +550 to win the AL.

Out of the National League, outside of the Philadelphia Phillies, you can get a better bargain. The Phillies are huge favorites, at +175. After that, Florida is second at +700 with the addition of Ozzie Guillen, Mark Buerhle and Jose Reyes. Arizona and San Francisco are next with +800, while the Braves are third in the NL East with +1000, and the NL Central favorite Cincinnati comes in at +1000. The defending World Series champions St. Louis Cardinals, who are led by Mike Matheny now, are at +1200 to win the National League. Milwaukee, the defending NL Central champions are also +1200.

To win the whole thing in 2012 – Philadelphia is the favorite. The Phillies were downed in five games last season in the opening round in five games. Philadelphia is listed at +475. The Yankees and Angels are second at +550, and then goes two more AL teams = in Detroit and Texas. The Tigers and Red Sox are just ahead of Boston, +800 to +900 respectively. The defending champion St. Louis Cardinals are +2500 to repeat.

One of the categories looked at most by baseball fans is who leads in homeruns. Odds makers have placed the odds with either Joey Bautista or Mike Stanton to win it all. Bautista continues to hit at a great pace, while Stanton is a major up and coming star in Miami. The new addition to the Angeles – Albert Pujols is next, at +1000. Mark Teixiera is also listed at +1000. Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder, teammates in Detroit are list at +1200, along with Adrian Gonzalez.

With not only these odds, but all the storylines coming out of Major League Baseball, we are poised to see a monster year in MLB. These lines came from Bodog, so be sure to continue checking back before the start of the season to see if these lines have moved at all. Best of luck!

Live from Busch Stadium…

So the Cardinals are really embracing social media these days.  They have invited anyone associated with Cardinals “media”, bloggers, tweeters, etc. to a Blogger day.  We got to enjoy a small session with GM of the Cardinals John Mozeliak, got free tickets to the Bob Gibson room in the legend club, and free beer/soda/food for todays game.  Very nice to see the Cardinals embrace bloggers this way!

Thoughts:

  • John Mozeliak is a bright guy.
  • The Nachos are great.
  • Cardinals dynamic ticket pricing is an interesting concept taken from the SF Giants.
  • Jamie Garcia is on his game today – can this offense hit?
  • 1-0 Pittsburgh in the 2nd – CUBS SUCK!

More to come…
