Andy MacPhail is Gone

Cubs Suck News — By webmaster on Monday, October 2, 2006

Andy MacPhail resigned as the president and chief executive officer of the Cubs on Sunday. This after the Cubs finished off the 2006 season with a NL worst 66-96 record. Falling 1 game behind the Pirates for the worst league in the NL.

“It’s not just the season,” said MacPhail, who had operated on a handshake deal since coming to the Cubs from the Minnesota Twins in late 1994. “It’s not just the fact that we had just a terrible season. Look, I’ve been here 12 years. Twelve seasons and only two postseasons. To me, that’s not what I came here to do. Obviously, I haven’t been as effective as I wanted to be. There’s one rule that applies to everybody,” MacPhail said. “You got to win, and if you don’t win, it’s subject to change.”

This is thought to be the first of MANY changes for the Cubs this offseason. Speculation is that Dusty Baker is next out the door. Only time will tell.
